HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Sharks raced into the match, taking their first lead just 71 seconds after the opening whistle when Hannah Christophe passed to Heikkila on the right side of the goal.
  • Nova Southeastern continued its offensive pressure for the next nine minutes, attacking Moccasins' goalkeeper Helene Norrstrom with four more shots, all of which were saved before a lightning delay halted play for 67 minutes.
  • Play resumed once the weather had cleared, as did the charge from the offense, adding six more shots before the first half ended.
  • After a yellow card was issued to Monica Orteu in the 48th minute, the Moccasins tied the match on the ensuing free kick from 67 yards out.
  • Christophe and Heikkila met up again in the 65th minute off a rebounded shot by Christophe to retake the lead.
  • Once again, the Mocs tied the match in the 73rd minute, evening things up for good on a cross from the right side.
  • The rest of the second half and both subsequent overtime periods came and went without any other action, ending in a draw for both teams.

STATS OF THE NIGHT:
  • The Sharks dominated ball control in the first half, outshooting the Mocs 11-2. The Mocs maintained an even balance for the rest of the game, matching the Sharks at nine in the second half and one in each overtime period.
  • Saturday marked the first time all season that the Mocs allowed more than one goal in a game, as they entered the match with a SSC-best 0.49 goals-against average.
  • Eleven of Florida Southern's 13 shots were on target, despite not attempting their first until the 31st minute after the Sharks began the game with eight straight of their own.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • With her second career multi-goal game, Heikkila has now logged four goals over her last three mathces, giving her the team lead with five.
  • Christophe, meanwhile, collected two assists for the first time in her career. Despite missing the first four games of the season, she has catapulted herself into a share of the SSC lead in that category with three.
  • Heikkila's first goal of the match was the quickest ever scored by the Sharks under head coach John Constable, topping the previous record, which was set by Alexys Nowak 91 seconds into a 2-0 home victory over Florida Tech on October 12, 2016.

UP NEXT:
Following the cancellation of Monday's match at No. 15 Columbus State, NSU will now turn its attention to next Wednesday's home contest against Palm Beach Atlantic. The Sharks beat the Sailfish in overtime 2-1 in the season's first meeting back in early September. For complete coverage of the action, visit the schedule page on NSUSharks.com.
