No. 3 Swimming Cruises Past Tars in SSC Opener

Sharks win 23 out of 28 events.

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The No. 3 Nova Southeastern men's and women's swimming teams swam past Rollins at the Alfond Swimming Pool in Winter Park, Fla. on Saturday afternoon in their Sunshine State Conference opener. The women defeated the Tars 153-93 while the men won, 180-76.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Sharks started the competition winning the first eight events.
  • After the Tars won the ninth event, the Sharks then took the next 15 races before the Rollins claimed first in the final four events.
  • Five Sharks won multiple events.
  • Freshmen Laurel Fink and Madison Allen led the women's team with three first-place finishes, two individually and one with the 200 freestyle relay.
  • Junior James Wilson led the men with two first place finishes along with a second place finish in the relays.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Liza Buluchevskya began the individual events with a win in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:58.81. The Plano, Texas native then won the 500 freestyle at 5:19.08.
  • Bernadro Abacsal followed Buluchevskya sweeping the men's 500 and 1,000 freestyle races with times of 4:47.13 and 9:47.44, respectively.
  • Fink claimed first in the 100 and 200 freestyle races at 54.55 and 1:58.40, respectively.
  • Allen won the 100 and 200 backstroke swimming 1:02.26 and 2:15.33, respectively.
  • Wilson claimed first in the 100 and 200 backstroke finishing in 54.02 and 1:57.04.
  • Freshman Haley Watters was the final swimmer to win multiple events, finishing first in the 100 and 200 butterflys with times of 1:01.82 and 2:13.11.
UP NEXT: 
The Sharks will return to the NSU Aquatic Center to face NJCAA powerhouse, Indian River State College on Friday, Nov. 10 at noon.
