Sharks Set Program Record for Points in 122-107 Win

Seven players score in double figures in rout over NYIT

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – There was nothing slowing the fast-paced, run-and-gun Nova Southeastern offense on Monday night. The well-oiled machine rolled its way to a new program-record 122 points as the Sharks raced past NYIT by a final score of 122-107. Head coach Jim Crutchfield's bunch took out their frustration from last Saturday's first defeat by shooting a sizzling 55.6 percent from the field, with seven players finishing in double figures. Point guard David Dennis posted a career-high 31 points to go along with 12 assists in the effort, while Isaac White broke out with a season-high 19 points off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | The Sharks set the tone from the opening tip, jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead following a Dwayne Gibson lay-in. NYIT hung within one at the 13:27 mark of the first half until Nova Southeastern reeled off a 12-4 run capped by two Lukas Landgren free throws in his first action of the season. The Sharks' cushion grew to double-digits on a triple by Gibson before it reached a dozen on a bucket by Dennis. The Bears cut the margin back to single digits in the final minute, but thanks to 13 points off turnovers, Nova Southeastern found itself up 55-46 heading into the locker room.

2nd Half | A 7-0 spurt to start the second half stretched the advantage to 62-46, yet NYIT hung tough with a 9-0 response of its own. Just as the Bears seemed to be gaining a bit of momentum, the Sharks caught fire from deep and quickly took complete control of the ball game. In a two-minute stretch, Nova Southeastern drained four triples, including a pair by Pat Huffine. After leading by just seven, the Sharks all of a sudden busted open a 19-point cushion. The margin would expand to as many as 24 midway through the half as Tarin eventually provided the exclamation point on the wire-to-wire victory with an alley-oop slam in the closing moments.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Nova Southeastern has now topped the 100-point mark five times already this season. The Sharks failed to reach triple digits once throughout all of 2016-17.
  • Freshman Nick Smith earned his first career start on Monday, registering 10 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
  • Dennis' 31-point, 12-assist performance marked his fourth double-double in just eight games.
  • Nova Southeastern outscored NYIT in bench points by a 39-15 margin.
  • Huffine, Tarin and White each recorded season-highs in points in the win.
  • After being outrebounded 23-16 in the first half, the Sharks wound up winning the battle of the boards 38-35.
