FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Following an emotional victory Saturday in head coach
Gary Tuell's final home game at Nova Southeastern, the Sharks will try to duplicate one more such effort Wednesday for their 13-year mentor when they wrap-up the regular season at Lynn.
Despite its struggles and having been mathematically eliminated from the Sunshine State Conference Tournament weeks ago, Nova Southeastern ensured Tuell would at least be sent out on a high note in front of the home crowd that included a number of his former players in attendance to watch the Sharks put a real damper on Saint Leo's own chances at reaching the postseason.
Sophomore
Dwayne Gibson tied a career-high with 24 points, his fifth 20-plus point effort in the last six games.
Harrison Goodrick finished with 18 points and nine rebounds in what also marked his final game at the Rick Case Arena in his three-year career, while
Carl Alenfall provided a spark off the bench with his second consecutive double-figure performance.
"Tonight, we all came out and competed. It was a great way to go out," said Goodrick. "It's been a great run, a great career. I'm glad we could send out coach the right way here at home."
While Nova Southeastern hasn't been as fortunate on the road as it's been at home this season, it can hopefully carry its current wave of momentum into Boca Raton on Wednesday, where Lynn has dropped four straight by an average of 14.2 points per game.
The Sharks will need to keep Fighting Knights leading scorer Marquan Botley much more in check, however, than what Florida Southern managed this past weekend when the guard poured in a career-high 40 points on 10-of-13 from beyond the arc. Botley's 40 points marked the most in a single-game in the SSC this season and kept Lynn a full game ahead of both Florida Tech and Saint Leo for the No. 7 slot in the league standings.
David Halberstam will have the call live for Wednesday's finale. For complete coverage of the action, log onto
