CLERMONT, Fla. – The Sharks softball team of Nova Southeastern University grabbed two wins on day two THE Spring Games held at Legends Way Fields in Clermont, Fla.
Down 1-0 after the first inning, NSU came back to take the victory, 5-1, over Bloomsburg (7-7) in the first game before blanking Slippery Rock (5-10), 5-0, in the nightcap.
With the pair of victories, NSU holds a 15-16 record on the overall season.
GAME ONE
After the Huskies tallied their lone run in the first, the Sharks used a three-run fourth inning to take the 3-1 lead.
Lexie Storrer led the inning off with a double to right-center before
Megan Granitto advanced her to third with a single to left. Granitto then went to steal second and as BU's catcher's throw went soaring over the second basemen's head, Storrer was able to score for the first run of the inning. Granitto was brought in on an RBI-double by
Ashley Roe and the final run was tallied as
Alex Suzuki sent her first ever collegiate home run soaring over the center-field fence.
NSU added another in the top of the fifth on an RBI-single by Storrer to go up 4-1 and recorded the final run of the game in the top of the seventh as another RBI-single, this time by Roe, plated
Dakota Villella for the 5-1 NSU lead.
Storrer, Granitto and Roe were all 2-for-4 while Roe tallied two RBI. Storrer and Granitto each scored once and Storrer also tallied one RBI.
Mary Acosta was also strong at the plate for NSU, finishing 2-for-3 in game one.
Storrer (10-7) picked up the win, allowing only one run on eight hits with a new career-high seven strikeouts.
GAME TWO
After three scoreless innings of play, the Sharks made it on the board in the home-half of the fourth, scoring on a pair of errors by Slippery Rock for a 2-0 edge.
An inning later, NSU tallied the final three runs of the game. With two outs and bases loaded after three-consecutive walks,
Erica Winter grabbed the fourth walk of the inning to push Storrer across the plate to make it 3-0 in NSU's favor. Another error proved costly for SRU, as the final two runs were scored when the shortstop couldn't handle
Sydney Lageyre's infield hit.
The Sharks were held to just five hits by Slippery Rock, compared to the seven hits allowed to be made by The Rock. Villella, Storrer, Granitto, Winter and Acosta were the ones who tallied the hits, while Winter also drew two walks.
Winter (5-5) improved her record with the shutout, seeing all 7.0 innings in the circle.
