WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Despite taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Nova Southeastern softball team dropped the first part of a three-game series to Palm Beach Atlantic of Thursday evening at Simpson Field.
The loss drops the Sharks to 22-21 on the season while PBA improves to 26-15.
With two outs in the top of the first inning,
Lexie Storrer drew a walk and the next batter,
Alex Suzuki, doubled to left center to score Storrer and give the Sharks its lone lead of the game.
The Sailfish responded in the top of the second with an RBI-double of their own to knot the game, 1-1, and tallied two more runs over the next two innings for a 3-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Sharks cut the deficit to one run, also serving as their last run of the game. With a full count,
Dana Edmundson singled to right field, and a double by
Dakota Villella plated her.
Villella was a solid 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI while Edmudson, Storrer and Suzuki tallied the rest of the Sharks' five total hits.
After 6.0 innings in the circle, Storrer (16-9) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
PBA's starting pitcher Ashton Adkins (15-5) earned the win allowing two runs on five hits while dishing out six strikeouts.
