WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –
Arina Sharonova was the hero for the Nova Southeastern women's tennis team, as she prevailed in the third set to give the Sharks (6-8, 3-4 SSC) the 5-4 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (11-10, 2-5 SSC) in West Palm Beach, Fla. on Wednesday night.

"Arina played with guts tonight," head coach Doug Neagle said. "This win is a huge confidence booster for her. She knew she was going to be the deciding point and she stuck to her game plan to get us a much-needed win. It was a great team effort all around, LP (Luicelena Perez) once again dominated in singles and doubles, while Simone (Pratt) and Nastassia (Rubel) continue to be an unstoppable doubles pair."

The Sharks took the lead going into singles after taking two of the three doubles matches. Pratt and Rubel improved their record to 12-0 with an 8-2 win over Leoni Polzin and Maja Jovic at No. 2. The Sailfish answered with an 8-2 win at No. 3. Still, Perez and Isabella Lowrey were able to give the Sharks the lead going into singles as they edged Valerie Nagovitcina and Taylor Conti, 8-6.

PBA tied it up to start singles after a win by default at No. 5. Shortly after, Pratt regained the lead for the Sharks with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Polzin at No. 2. Ninth-ranked Perez made it a 4-2 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Nagovitcina in the top-flight, improving her record to 13-0. The Sailfish wouldn't go quietly as they tied the match 4-4 with wins at No. 3 and 4, while forcing a third set at No. 6. However, Sharonova stepped up and got the win for the Sharks. The Moscow, Russia native defeated Jovic 77-63, 0-6, 6-2 to snap the Sharks four-match losing streak.

The Sharks will return to the NSU Tennis Complex on Friday, Apr. 7 to face Eckerd at 2:00 p.m.
