FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 6 and No. 17 Nova Southeastern women and men's swim teams' power was evident on Tuesday afternoon at the NSU Aquatic Center, as the Sharks topped both Grand Valley State and William Jewel in their first competition of 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Sharks grabbed the first two first-place finished on both sides of the 200 yard medley relay. The women finished in 1:45.57, an NCAA B-Cut time, while the men finished in 1:33.93.
- NSU gathered 25 first-place finishes with three NCAA B-Cut times.
- Both of Nova Southeastern's 400 yard freestyle relay teams picked up victories to close out the meet, with the women finishing in 3:34.45 and the men in 3:10.92.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Madison Yelle earned the first individual victory for NSU in the 1,000 yard freestyle in 10:35.52.
- Bernardo Abascal notched a win in the 1,000 free on the men's side, finishing in 9:35.39.
- In the 200 yard freestyle, Emma Sundstedt and Franco Lupoli both claimed first-place finishes for the Sharks, finishing in 1:51.59 and 1:42.03, respectively. The pair also went on to sweep the 500 freestyle, with times of 5:02.64 and 4:39.71, respectively. Both of Sundstedt's times were good enough for the final two B-Cut times set by the Sharks on Tuesday.
- Jenna Johns earned a victory in the 100 yard backstroke in 58.57, while Magnus Poulsen took the win on the men's side in 53.13. Johns notched another win in the 100 butterfly later in the day with a time of 57.97.
- Malin Westman grabbed her first win of the day in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.17, before taking the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.68.
- Caroline Oster collected the 10th victory of the day for NSU in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.23, while Thomas Rutherford earned the win for the Sharks on the men's side in 1:53.75
- Sydney Panzarino slid through the water in the 50 free, grabbing first place in 24.07, and Malique Elder secured the sweep in the event with a time of 21.28.
- Jordan Shows picked up a win in the 100 free (52.85) as well as Alec Dawson (46.88).
- Courtney DeVeny notched two wins on Tuesday, in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.35 and in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:12.43.
- Matteo Masiero earned a win in the 100 yard butterfly in 49.92, while Rutherford closed out the last of the individual events with a winning time of 1:57.09 in the men's 200 yard IM.
UP NEXT:
The Sharks will return to Sunshine State Conference competition on Jan. 13 as they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to compete in a dual meet against Florida Southern. On the men's side, the Mocs are currently ranked 19th, while the women are receiving votes.
