HOW IT HAPPENED:
1ST QUARTER | Down 8-3 in the first quarter, the Sharks used a 7-1 run, capped with a three by
Megan Piggott to steal the lead from the Spartans, 10-9. The two teams were back and forth until a layup by
Maria Bardeeva at the 2:28 mark gave NSU the lead, 14-13, one they would not let up again until the final frame.
2ND QUARTER | A layup by
Cheray Saunders 1:12 into the second gave the Sharks their largest lead of the game yet, 25-15. A trey by Tampa's Julia Ingram at the 3:51 mark cut the deficit to four, 32-38, but that would be as close as they would get as the Sharks were able to extend their lead back out to seven, 39-32, before heading into the break.
3RD QUARTER | The Sharks were hot in the first half of the third frame, taking yet another double-digit lead, 52-42 with two from the line by Piggott with 4:49 left. The Sharks grabbed only two more points in the remainder of the frame, coming from a pair of
Alison Hughes free throws thanks to a technical on Tampa, and took their 54-48 lead into the last quarter.
4TH QUARTER | Tampa started to chip away at NSU's lead at the start of the fourth and after a 10-4 run, the Spartans knotted the game for the first time since the first quarter, 58-58, with 6:54 left to go. A 6-2 run by NSU gave the Sharks back the lead, 64-60, but UT responded with a 5-0 run of their own to put the advantage back on their side, 65-64. A layup by
Mikayla Thompson put NSU back on top, 66-65, but that would be the last time as the Spartans went on to outscore the Sharks 11-3 for the 76-69 eventual win.
