HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Sharks started the scoring in just the match's fourth minute. Aleks Berg hit Michael Lawrence in the box, who spun and shot it past the keeper.
- Lawrence scored again in the 12th minute, this time assisted by Arns Carrernard, hitting the right corner of net from the far left side.
- Just 47 seconds later, Lawrence spread the joy, finding Bradley Fountain for the team's third goal.
- Darwin Lom scored the fourth and final goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 36th minute.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Berg's assist on Lawrence's first goal gives him 10 on the season, the first Shark to reach the double-digit mark since 2008. As just the fifth player to join the 10-assist club since 1994, he joins a trio of NSU Hall of Famers in Teofilo Cubillas (10 in 1999, Class of 2007); Matthew Parry (10 in 2003, Class of 2011); and Romain Onteniente (11 in 2008, Class of 2017), as well as Rafael Ferreiro, whose 13 assists in 2000 are the most in that span.
- Outscoring their conference opponents 23-7 in nine games, the Sharks lead the SSC in scoring (2.6 goals per game) and defense (0.78 goals allowed per game) in conference play. With an average margin of victory of 1.8, they are the only team in the conference winning by at least one goal per game.
- Tonight's victory secures that the Sharks set the program record for best SSC winning percentage, as they are already guaranteed a better record than the 5-2-1 (.688) mark put up by the 2004 team, as well as the best all-time conference record since 1998, when they went 10-2 (.833) as members of the NAIA's Sun Conference.
- Lawrence became the first player with two goals and an assist in a conference match since Juan Gonzalez did so on Oct. 27, 2010 vs. Lynn.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
- The Sharks outshot the Tritons 22-8 in the match, including 12-3 in the first half. Of their 12 first-half shots, nine were on target: four hit the net and five were stopped by the Tritons' keeper.
- Lawrence's five points in the game matched his total season output coming into the night. After a seven-game span in which he attempted just two shots total, the freshman now has three goals on six shots in his last two games.
- Lom's penalty kick goal was his eighth of the season, and combined with his five assists, has pushed him past the 20-point mark on the season, up to 21 and just four behind Sebastian Loibl's 25.
- Loibl and Lom are the first pair of Sharks in the 20-point club since 2008, and, with Berg, Fountain and Lawrence, the first quintet of players each with 10 or more points since the same year.
- Scoring four or more goals for the seventh time in 14 matches, the Sharks already have their third-highest goal total since joining the SSC. Only the 2004 (54) and 2008 (48) squads scored more goals than this year's team has.
- The Sharks scored twice in less than a minute for the fifth time this season, the fourth time this month, and for the second game in a row.
UP NEXT:
The Sharks will conclude the regular season when they host the Lynn Fighting Knights on Tuesday for Senior Night in a match that has major SSC Tournament implications. The teams are tied for second place in the standings, each at 7-2, for 21 points in conference play. A win for the Sharks gives them a bye through the quarterfinals and a home match on Thursday, Nov. 1 in the semifinals. A win for the Knights, however, has the possibility of granting them the SSC regular season championship. Last season,
Stefan Faistenauer's 84
th-minute scoreless tie-breaker gave the Sharks a 1-0 victory over No. 19 Lynn, their first in Boca Raton in 31 years. For complete coverage of the action, visit the
