HOW IT HAPPENED:

SET 1 | The Sharks and the Spartans stayed within two points of each other throughout the early stages of the first set, and an error by Tampa knotted the game at 7-7. Tampa then took off on an 11-1 run to take an 18-8 advantage, and continued to put the pressure on NSU, taking the set 25-12.

SET 2 | Tampa took no time to take the lead in the second, grabbing as much as a 15-point lead at 20-5. Back-to-back errors by the Spartans, an ace by Caylee Cox and a kill by Erin Carter put together a four-point run for the Sharks to bring the score to 20-9, but UT did not let up and ended up taking the set, 25-12.

SET 3 | Down 4-0 to start the set, the Sharks were able to bring the deficit to two points multiple times, the last time coming from a kill by Gabby Bauch at 10-8. At 22-16, NSU put up three consecutive points, capped with a block by Kim Blasko and Leslie Atherton to come within three points at 22-19. That would be as close as the Sharks would get for the remainder of the set as the Spartans put up the final three points needed to seal the three-set victory.
