HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | First-set errors for the Sharks, 10 total, proved to be the determining factor in the opening stanza, as Barry jumped out to a 12-4 advantage. As a four-point BU push forced a second NSU timeout at 18-6, the Sharks battled back in matching the Bucs' effort 7-7 down the stretch of the 25-13 loss. The Sharks tied the Bucs 38-38 on attacks and trailed in digs 18-20. Kills by
Denvyr Tyler-Palmer, Maddie Ulik and
Gabby Bauch highlighted the Sharks' late rally.
SET 2 | The Sharks went ahead early at 3-2 on a
Megan Burns ace and extended to 4-2 courtesy of a BU error. However, Barry's Megi Buvinic knocked down three consecutive kills to close out a 7-0 Bucs run before
Leslie Atherton broke it up with a kill at 10-5. Twice Tyler-Palmer trimmed the deficit to four and then three, leading NSU to cut to within two at 14-12. Ulik sliced the BU lead to three with a hard spike through the middle at 16-13 and Atherton's block matched the effort at 17-14. The Sharks stayed in the fight late but the climb was too far, outscoring Barry 6-5 down the stretch in the 25-20 BU win.
SET 3 | NSU opened up with a 2-0 lead, but again Barry went on the offensive, carrying a scoring run to a 7-2 advantage.
Erin Carter got things back to 9-5 with a
Samantha Blasko-assisted kill. Consecutive Tyler-Palmer kills brought the Sharks to their best position at 13-10, but Kishara Gordon's subsequent kill launched the Bucs' biggest run of the match, as Barry outscored NSU 12-2 to take the third match at 25-12 and complete the sweep.
