HOW IT HAPPENED:

SET 1 | The Sharks took an early 3-0 lead, and held onto that lead for the remainder of the set. At 13-11, NSU took off on a 5-1 run, sparked by a kill by Sydney Lemon, to take an 18-11 edge over the Lions. Saint Leo tried to muster a rally towards the end of the set, coming within four at 23-19, but kills by Denvyr Tyler-Palmer and Maya Patterson ended the set with the Sharks on top, 25-19.

SET 2 | Unlike the first set, it was the Lions that grabbed the early advantage. At 9-5, the Sharks put up four unanswered points to knot the game at 9-9. The set saw four ties, but the Lions were able to stay on top until at 19-19, another kill by Tyler-Palmer gave NSU its first lead of the set. After another tie, a kill by Tyler-Palmer and an ace by the senior put the Sharks ahead at 22-20, forcing SLU to call for a timeout. SLU attempted to steal back the lead, but a kill by Leslie Atherton gave NSU the 25-23 win and overall 2-0 lead.

SET 3 | Coming back for revenge, the Lions quickly jumped out to an early 9-3 lead. The Lions continued to put the pressure on the Sharks, going up as many as 10 points as of late at 23-13. After a kill by Atherton signified as the last point scored by the Sharks in the set, the Lions earned their first win of the day in set three, 25-14.

SET 4 | Similar to the third set, SLU jumped ahead early, 11-4. The Sharks were able to tally three consecutive points to bring the score to 11-7 and force the Lions to call for a timeout, but it wasn't enough the cool off the visitors as they went on to take the fourth set at 25-14, also.

SET 5 | In an absolute marathon set, the Sharks were the first to attack, grabbing a 1-0 edge with a block by Maddie Uilk and Lemon. NSU fell behind at 5-4, but a kill by Atherton, a block by Atherton and Kim Blasko and an ace by Samantha Blasko pushed the Sharks back out in front, 7-5. Nova Southeastern held onto their lead until an error by the Sharks allowed Saint Leo to tie it up, 12-12. The game saw six more ties and six lead changes to finish out, as three straight blocks tallied by the Lions at 18-17 sealed the Sharks' fate and gave Saint Leo the overall 3-2 victory.
