FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Nova Southeastern softball doubleheader split against the Pittsburg State Gorillas was highlighted by starting pitcher
Lexie Storrer's first-collegiate perfect game in the first half of the twinbill. The sophomore right hander recorded two strikeouts in the Sharks' 1-0 win over the Gorillas, before NSU dropped the second game to the visitors, 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOTTOM 6TH: A lead-off triple by Edmundson in the seventh got Shark fans on their feet ready for the go-ahead score, but after a controversy at the plate on an attempted RBI-bunt single by
Kailynn Blackwood, the Sharks remained scoreless heading into the final inning.
BOTTOM 7TH:
Daniela Bautista led the inning off getting hit by a pitch to reach first, being replaced by
Samantha Romberger to run the bases. After a fly out by
Mayte Lezcano, a single through the left side by
Kayla Kight put Sharks in scoring position with Romberger at second. After another fly out by
Sydney Lageyre,
Megan Maloney drew a walk to load the bases. After a PSU pitching change, the next batter,
Dana Edmundson, wore the pitch to force in Romberger from third for the walk-off 1-0 victory.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Storrer recorded her first-collegiate perfect game, with no runs, hits or base runners allowed and dishing out two strikeouts.
- The Sharks posted five hits in game one, tallied by Edmundson, Keeley Mayers, Bautista, Kight and Maloney.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Storrer's perfect game was the first recorded by a Shark since Feb. 23, 2010 by Dani Caron.
- Storrer served a no-hitter last season to the UAH Chargers, as she walked two to prevent a perfect game.
- Edmundson's triple in the sixth was the first triple recorded by the Sharks this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 2ND: A throwing error by the Sharks with two runners on base allowed them both to score, and the Gorillas took an early 2-0 lead.
TOP 5TH: Storrer's high school teammate, Kala Holder, pushed the Gorillas to a 4-0 advantage with a two-run homer to center field.
BOTTOM 5TH: With the bases loaded and no outs, a ground out by Bautista brought home Blackwood, who led off with a single to third base. The next batter, Lezcano, grounded out to second, allowing Mayers to cross the plate to cut the deficit to two runs, 4-2. That would end up to be the eventual final score.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks were limited to just three hits, recorded by Blackwood, Bautista and Lezcano.
- There were three walks drawn by NSU.
- NSU was forced to strand nine runners on base, while PSU left seven.
- Dominique Sprengers was handed her second loss of the season, tossing the first 4.0 innings and allowing two runs (0 ER) on five hits with two strikeouts. Storrer closed out the final 3.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Today was the first time the Sharks and the Gorillas faced off.

The Sharks will enter Sunshine State Conference play this upcoming weekend, traveling to Boca Raton, Fla. to compete in a three-game series against the Lynn Fighting Knights beginning on Feb. 17 at 1:00 p.m.
