Lynn Takes Game One Over Sharks, 4-2

The series will conclude with a doubleheader tomorrow, Feb. 18

 BOCA RATON, Fla. – In the first part of a three-game series against the Lynn Fighting Knights at the Lynn Softball Field on Saturday afternoon, the Nova Southeastern softball team came up short, 4-2.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
FINAL SCORE:  Lynn Fighting Knights 4 (W: K. Sheffield, 2-2), Nova Southeastern Sharks 2 (L: L. Storrer, 3-6),
RECORDS: NSU (3-8, 0-1 SSC), LU (7-4, 1-0 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
BOTTOM 1ST: An RBI-single by Lynn's Rios allowed the Fighting Knights to take a 1-0 lead before a throwing error by the Sharks two batters later allows two more to score for a 3-0 Lynn advantage.
 
TOP 3RD: The Sharks made it on the board two innings later, bringing the score to 3-1, as an RBI-single by Keeley Mayers plated Dana Edmundson, who was hit by a pitch two batters prior.
 
BOTTOM 5TH: With two outs on the board, Rios used another RBI-single to score Arenson, giving Barry a 4-1 advantage.
 
TOP 7TH: Megan Maloney lead the inning off with a double to left-center to put the sharks in scoring position early, and after a ground out by Kailynn Blackwood advanced her to third, another double, this time by Edmundson, brought her home to cut the deficit to two runs, 4-2. That would end up to be the final score as the Sharks were forced the leave Edmundson stranded.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Edmundson was solid at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • The Sharks out-hit the Knights 7-5, with six different Sharks recording hits.
  • Storrer took the loss, pitching all 6.0 innings and allowing four runs (2 ER) on five hits with four strikeouts. 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Maloney's double in the seventh was her first this season, her second of her career.
UP NEXT: 

The Sharks will continue the three-game series against the Lynn Fighting Knights tomorrow, Feb. 18, with a doubleheader slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
