HOW IT HAPPENED:
After the first two batters reached base safely in the bottom of the second, the Bobcats used an RBI-groundout to shortstop to open the scoring before grabbing an early 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to center.
The Sharks would respond, though, in the top half of the third. A one-out walk by
Andrew Labosky followed by a
Samuel Duran single into left put two runners aboard with one out. Both runners would advance 90 feet on a wild pitch in the ensuing at-bat and soon came around to score when an errant throw by the St. Thomas catcher sailed into the outfield.
The Bobcats quickly regained a 3-2 advantage in the home half of the third on a two-out single into center and soon doubled that margin to 4-2 with yet another two-out base hit in the fourth. The Sharks continued to turn to their bullpen, yet were unable to stop the bleeding as the Bobcats added two more in the fifth and three more in the sixth to blow the ball game open.
Dominic Diana collected a sac fly in the eighth following a lead-off triple by
Andrew Liberty. However, the rally would stop there as the final five batters were set down in order by the St. Thomas bullpen.
