CLERMONT, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team opened up play in THE Spring Games on Friday with two wins over Cedarville and Saint Anselm. In the afternoon, the Sharks topped the Yellow Jackets, 6-1, before taking the nightcap, 2-1, over the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 3RD: The Sharks took a 1-0 edge after
Sydney Lageyre led off the inning with a triple down the right-field line, and was brought home by the next batter,
Dana Edmundson, who grounded out to second.
TOP 4TH: With the bases loaded,
Kayla Kight tripled to right field, bringing home
Keeley Mayers and
Dominique Sprengers for a 3-0 lead. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases once more, and an error committed by the Yellow Jackets allowed Kight to make it home for the 4-0 NSU advantage.
BOTTOM 4TH: In the home half of the inning, Cedarville tallied their lone run of the game on a double by Kara Eiginger.
TOP 6TH: Again, with the bases loaded,
Kailynn Blackwood singled to right field, plating
Lexie Storrer and
Megan Maloney to account for the final two runs of the game and the eventual 6-1 NSU victory.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks tallied seven hits in game one, as Blackwood went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
- Edmundson and Kight also tallied two RBI apiece, both going 1-for-4.
- Storrer improved her record to 6-9 with the win, as she pitched all 7.0 innings, allowing only one run on five hits with three strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Lageyre's triple was her first of the season, while Kight's was her second.
- This was the first time the Sharks and the Yellow Jackets faced off.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOTTOM 3RD: With Lageyre at second, a single by Blackwood through the left side put runners on the corners for the Sharks. The next batter, Daniela Baustista laid down a bunt just feet from home plate, but Lageyre was quick enough to cross the plate for a 1-0 edge.
TOP 5TH: An inning and a half later, the Hawks knotted the game with an RBI-triple by Kaleigh Scoville, which would serve as their lone run of the game.
BOTTOM 6TH: Sprengers launched a double to center to lead off the inning, and after a sacrifice bunt by Storrer, was pushed to third. A walk was drawn by
Kayla Kight before the next batter,
Megan Maloney sent a sacrifice fly to left to score Sprengers for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Both Blackwood and Bautista were 2-for-3 on the night, and Bautista had one RBI.
- Storrer was 2-for-2 with a walk and Sprengers was 1-for-3 with one run scored.
- Sprengers put her record into the positives (3-2) after tossing all 7.0 innings, allowing only one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Sprengers held a no-hitter until the top of the fifth.
- Lageyre's season-high seven assists tied her career-high she sent on Mar. 16, 2017 against California University (Penn.). This game was also in THE Spring Games.
- This was just the second time in school history the Hawks and the Sharks competed against each other.
UP NEXT:
The Sharks will continue play in THE Spring Games tomorrow with a pair of games against Winona State at 2:00 p.m. and Upper Iowa at 4:30 p.m. Both games will once again only have live stats.
