Matthews Repeats as SSC Player of the Week

NSU forward averaged 24.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in wins over Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle

MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the second time in as many weeks, Nova Southeastern forward Mark Matthews has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office earlier Monday.

Matthews continued his recent tear by averaging 24.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of SSC wins over Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle. The Sailfish had no answer for the redshirt junior in the Sharks' 100-95 victory last Wednesday, as Matthews needed just 11 shot attempts to register his eighth 20-plus point effort of the season. Three days later, the Bonita Springs, Fla. native followed up the performance by tallying his sixth double-double with 26 points and 14 boards against Embry-Riddle, keeping Nova Southeastern atop the league standings at 10-1.

Now averaging 19.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, Matthews not only leads the Sharks, but ranks among the Top-3 in the SSC in both statistical categories.

NSU will travel to Miami Shores, Fla. this Wednesday for a showdown with Barry. The Sharks knocked off the Buccaneers, 103-93, in the year's first meeting back in late November.
