MELBOURNE, Fla. – From his exceptional debut performance for the Sharks this past Saturday in a 168-94 win over Keiser,
Aleksei Averchenko was named the Sunshine State Conference male swimmer of the week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Averchenko helped the men's swim team earn first place in 10-of-14 events, with their first victory of the meet in the 200 Medley Relay, as Averchenko,
Cory Klemm,
Magnus Poulsen, and
Jonathan Yanello combined for a 1:34.44 time.
The junior transfer also captured two individual wins to lead the men's squad, his top was an NCAA B-qualifying time of 1:50.09 in the 200 fly and he narrowly missed a B-cut time with 1:51.12 in the 200 back.
The Sharks will compete in the University of Miami's First Chance Meet on Feb. 16 in Coral Gables while continuing to prepare for the SSC Championships starting on Feb. 21.
