HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | With the Sharks leading by a slim margin of 11-10, the Mocs strung together three straight points to steal the lead from NSU before the Sharks called for their first timeout. Returning to the floor, Nova Southeastern used a 4-0 run to take back the lead, 15-13. NSU continued to work on pulling away from the Mocs, as back-to-back kills by
Ally Ford and
Alex Boone pushed their lead to 18-15, and it was FSC's turn to take a timeout. The Mocs weren't about to give up, however, responding with four straight of their own to tie the game for the last time at 19-19. From there, a kill and an ace by Ford along with a Mocs error made it 22-19 in favor of the Sharks. FSC was able to make it interesting down the line coming within one point at 24-23, before a solo block by
Brittany Landrum ended the set with NSU on top.
SET 2 | NSU quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Mocs battled back to take the lead, 5-3. The Sharks came back with a 7-1 run, sparked by a kill by
Amanda Hall, to regain the lead 10-6 and force the Mocs to call for a break. Florida Southern was able to tie the game at 11-11, but a kill by Boone ignited a 6-0 run to put NSU out in front 17-11, and to keep the advantage on their side for the remainder of the set. A 4-0 run by FSC cut NSU's lead to two at 21-19, but it wasn't enough as the Sharks went on to take set two by a score of 25-21.
SET 3 | Trailing 1-0, a 5-0 run capped with an ace by
Emily Sippel gave the Sharks the advantage, one they would not let go of. A kill by Hall and a Florida Southern error gave NSU its largest lead of the set at 19-10, before the Sharks went on to grab their largest margin of victory win, 25-18, to earn the sweep.
