HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | The Sharks were able to stay within three points of the Lions early in the set, before a 3-0 run by Saint Leo pushed the home team's lead out to six, 12-6, and forced NSU to use their first timeout. The Sharks were able to cut it to five with a kill by
Amanda Hall and again at 13-8 with a kill by
Emily Sippel, but that would be as close as they would get for the remainder of the set. NSU hinted at a comeback with a kill by
Alex Boone and an ace by
Caylee Cox to make it 24-17, but an error by the Sharks closed out set one with SLU on top, 25-17.
SET 2 | Down 3-0 to start set two, a solo block by
Brittany Landrum sparked a 4-0 run by the Sharks to give NSU a 4-3 lead. Despite a tie at 4-4, the Sharks were able to stay out in front until back-to-back points by the Lions tied it once again at 8-8. After four ties, Saint Leo took advantage of a 3-0 run to take a four-point lead over the Sharks at 17-13, as NSU used their first timeout. An ace by
Ally Ford cut the game to two points at 17-15, but it wasn't enough to steal the lead away from the Lions. The Sharks were able to string together three-straight points late in the set to once again cut the deficit to two points, 23-21, and again at 24-22 with a kill bye
Alex Boone, but a kill by Saint Leo's Anilise Fitzi ended the set, giving the home team a 2-0 overall lead.
SET 3 | Down 7-2 early on, NSU strung together three-straight points, capped with a block by
