HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams were limited in their scoring opportunities in the first half. The Sharks' first shot, by Hannah Christophe in the seventh minute, was blocked. A trio of attempts before the 20-minute mark followed, from Chama Silva and Adanna Edwards, that were also either high or blocked.
  • NSU's first good look came from Dejah Holman in the 23rd minute, but it was saved by Sailfish keeper Madison Chiola.
  • The Sailfish had just two shots in the half, in the 18th and 30th minutes, respectively, both off the leg of Kylee Rullo..
  • The Sharks took three more shots in the final 10 minutes of the opening 45, but all three were off target.
  • The offense was significantly more aggressive out of the break, with three shots in the first five minutes, yet all were all stopped by Chiola.
  • The Sharks had a scare in the 79th minute when Skyler Mackey was issued a red card, but the ensuing Sailfish shot, their only one of the half, was high, as well.
  • Despite playing a woman down, the Sharks were seemingly re-energized after the red card, and it showed when, only three minutes later, Emma Heikkila hit Edwards, who fired from the right side into the far corner of the net for the lone goal of the match.
  • The Sharks had chances to put another one on the board, but Chiola made three more saves in the final three minutes.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • After setting records for best start and longest win streak in program history with Saturday's victory at Florida Tech, the Sharks continue to break new ground with 10 consecutive wins to open the season.
  • In addition, the Sharks have also broken records for longest shutout streak (five matches) and longest scoreless streak in minutes, not allowing a single goal in over 546 minutes of game time. The previous shutout record was initially set in 1996 and tied three times, including the first four games of this very season, while the previous scoreless streak record was 532:41, set over a span of four matches from Oct. 2-19 in 2003.
  • The Sharks continue to lower their nation-leading goals-against average, now down to just 0.10, while their save percentage, which also leads all of Division II, stays at .962. The defense has also yet to allow a goal in 366:31 minutes of SSC play.
  • Heikkila is now tied for second all-time with Mandi Adams and Stephanie Quinones at 15 assists. NSU Hall of Fame Class of 2017 inductee Shurell Burton holds the program record with 18.
  • As a team, the Sharks have already tied the program record with nine shutouts in a single season, which was set all the way back in 1998.
  • The Sharks have now won eight consecutive matches against the Sailfish and are undefeated in their last 13. The last loss came on Sept. 13, 2005, and the teams also tied on Oct. 26, 2013.
  • In his fifth season at the helm, head coach John Constable has now led the team to a 4-0 start in SSC play three times, the first two coming in 2016 and 2017. In 11 seasons as an SSC member before his arrival, the Sharks had never done that even once.
 STATS OF THE NIGHT:
  • Having just returned on Saturday from an early-season injury, Edwards scored her first goal of the season, and the 13th of her career with the Sharks. She is the 16th different player to score a goal for the Sharks this season.
  • Despite not entering the game until the 65th minute, Heikkila made her limited minutes count, extending her streak of consecutive games with a point to eight on her assist to Edwards. She is now all alone for the team lead with five assists.
  • The Sharks dominated possession, with 20 total shots to just three for the Sailfish, none of which were on goal. In the first half, the Sharks had an 8-2 shot advantage, but were on target just once, compared to 8-for-12 in the second half. They also posted a 9-1 edge in corner kicks, with seven of them coming after halftime.
  • Christophe and Silva led the team with five shots each, and Edwards wasn't far behind with four of her own. The trio combined for six of the team's nine total shots on goal.
  • Still in net after halftime for the first time this season after sharing the goal with Natalie Robayna for the first nine games, Shannon Hearty earned the first 90-minute shutout of her career. After posting a scoreless streak of nearly 408 minutes dating back to last season, Hearty has another extended scoreless streak going, this time up to 314:36 and counting.
