HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1 | NSU created some slight separation midway through the first set by scoring three consecutive points and capitalizing on miscues by the Knights to take a 16-8 lead. The Sharks pushed the lead to nine, 21-12, the largest lead the set, on a kill by
Gabby Bauch. Lynn climbed back into the set later in the frame but would get no closer than three points. A kill by
Alex Boone sealed the first set for NSU with a 25-21 win.
SET 2 | The Knights forced the Sharks into a timeout to start the second set as they took an early 10-5 lead. NSU rallied midway through the set, however, and scored five straight points for an 18-17 advantage. Lynn crept close and regained the lead by outscoring the Sharks 8-1 to take the set, 25-19.
SET 3 | NSU rattled off four straight points to close within one point of the lead at 10-9, but Lynn extended its advantage by outscoring the Sharks 7-2 over the next few minutes. NSU responded by going on a 7-0 run sparked by a Boone kill and took a one-point lead at 18-17, but the Knights scored eight straight points to win the third set, 25-18.
SET 4 | Lynn used a quick-strike offense in the fourth set, racing out to a 6-1 lead to push the Sharks into an early timeout in the frame. A pair of kills from
Amanda Hall and Boone early in the set clawed NSU back into it, trailing just 7-4 at one point. The Sharks were unable to inch any closer to the Knights, ultimately falling 25-17 in the final set and dropping the match, 3-1.
