HOW IT HAPPENED:
Jumpstarted by a first-inning Danny Sirven RBI single, the Spartans scored across the first two frames to move out to a 3-0 advantage. However, big middle innings proved dangerous for the Sharks as UT added four in the fourth and five in the sixth to break the game open, en route to dealing NSU a 14-0 series-opening loss.
UT starter Keven Pimentel led a strong pitching effort that held the Sharks to one hit.
Mike Rojas put NSU on the board in the sixth with a single through the left side. Pimentel (3-1) went 7.0 innings for the UT win. NSU Freshman
Nathan Campbell (3-1) suffered his first career loss, tossing 4.0 innings on the night.
STATS OF THE DAY:
- Tampa extends its series lead over NSU to 43-21.
