LAKE NONA, Fla. – The No. 7 Nova Southeastern women's tennis team (12-0) kept it's hot streak alive at one of the premier facilities in the nation, knocking off their fifth ranked team of the season on a 6-1 victory over No. 25 Wayne State (15-5) at the USTA National Campus on Monday.
With just eight days until the next Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, the Sharks have been putting on quite a showing in the early season, as NSU continues with the most consecutive wins since 2015-16.
Doubles
- Junior Isabella Lowrey teamed with sophomore Chantal Nosievici got the Sharks' momentum moving toward their fifth win since leaving on their Spring Break trip last week. The NSU tandem defeated Astrid Ciellza and Carla Jewell, 6-0.
- Following up that effort to capture the doubles point for NSU, freshman Natalie Espinal and junior Sarah Wardenburg tallied a No. 2 doubles victory over Linda Liong and Laura Cazacu.
Singles
- Opening singles on a win in the fourth flight, Nosievici topped Khadija Da-Silva in near straight-games, winning 6-1, 6-0.
- Taking over in the top flight for the third time this season (now 3-1 in No. 1 singles), Espinal fought off Dasha Kuznetsova for a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
- Lowrey added a 6-3, 6-0 win over Jewell in No. 5 singles to push the match in NSU's favor.
- Making her second appearance this week and this season in sixth-flight singles, Ivana Djordjevic topped Brianna Douglas, 6-2, 6-2.
- Closing out the day on a win, Diane Follin-Arbelet scapped it out with Liong, taking the victory in tiebreakers for a 7-5, 7-6 win, sending the 6-1 Sharks team finish final.
From Coach Doug Neagle
"Solid finish to our Spring Break trip," Neagle said. "Nine days is a really long time to be away and I'm proud of this team coming back with five wins. The team is looking forward to a much-needed few days off."
Up Next: The Sharks' next match is also on the road, but closer to home and six days away, as NSU will face Keiser in West Palm Beach on Sunday, March 17. At 13-1, the Seahawks are ranked No. 2 in the NAIA.
