GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Competing in the prestigious Tom Jones Memorial Invitational this weekend at Pearcy Beard Track in Florida's James G. Pressly Stadium, eight elite Nova Southeastern track and field athletes put on a strong showing against a largely Division I field.
RUNNING EVENTS
- Junior Ian Nieves matched up against the second-fastest 110m hurdler in Division I, Florida's Grant Holloway, making a quality showing for seventh in the preliminary at 14.73, then bumping up to 14.52 to finish sixth overall and fourth among collegiate performers in the event.
- Nieves also produced a 53.13-second race for eighth place in the 400m hurdles – third among collegiate athletes, just behind Miami and Florida State's hurdlers.
- Coming in at 1:52.40, freshman Michael Parry finished seventh in the 800m.
FIELD EVENTS
- Senior Kamaria Johnson advanced to the finals in both of her throwing events, finishing eighth in the shot put with a mark of 13.36m (43-10.00) and ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 48.40m (158-09).
- Senior Brianna Law was ninth in the pole vault at 3.40m (11-01.75).
RELAYS
Up Next: The Sharks have their eyes on some additional qualification opportunities ahead of late-May's NCAA Championships, but are next scheduled to head to Mount Olive, N.C. for the Mount Olive Final Qualifier, May 10-11.
