Late PBA Rally Hands NSU First Home Loss of 2020

The three-game series will continue tomorrow

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Sharks softball team suffered its first loss of the 2020 season inside the AD Griffin Sports Complex on Tuesday night, as the PBA Sailfish rallied in the top of the seventh inning to top the Sharks, 3-2.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
BOTTOM 1ST | After drawing a leadoff walk and stealing two bases, Sam Sisco was brought home on an error by the Sailfish's third baseman to give the Sharks a 1-0 early edge.
 
TOP 2ND | The Sailfish responded in their next half inning, tying the game 1-1 as an RBI-triple by Faith Allen scored Hannah Carlton, who led off with a double to left center.
 
BOTTOM 5TH | After stealing second, Sydney Lageyre was brought home on a single by Sisco and an error by the Sailfish to put NSU back out in front, 2-1.
 
TOP 7TH | With one out and runners on first and second, an Alexis Guerra double to center tied the game, 2-2. Before a sacrifice fly two batters later by Janie McCloskey brought home the game-winning run for PBA.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
 
  • The Sharks tallied six hits on the night, with five different Sharks recording each hit.
  • Sisco was the only Shark to finish with two hits, as she went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
  • Lageyre was 1-for-3, recording one run scored. Juliana Speranza, Anina Fernandez and Alex Suzuki also finished 1-for-3.
  • Emily Hess took the loss, pitching the first 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits. Savannah Foster entered in relief for the final .2 innings.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
 
  • Scoring once tonight, Sisco is currently ranked third in the league with 13 runs scored. She also ranks fourth in the league with her 19 hits.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Sharks will wrap up their three-game series with the PBA Sailfish on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The first pitch of the first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
