NSU Rallies to Earn First SSC Victory

Sharks will look for their first SSC series win on Saturday afternoon

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The NSU softball team picked up its eighth home and first Sunshine State Conference win of the season on Friday night, rallying back from a 2-0 deficit to top the Florida Southern Moccasins, 3-2, on Friday night in the AD Griffin Sports Complex.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
TOP 1ST | With runners on first and second, FSC's Kensie Green singled through the right side to put the Mocs on the board before an error by the Sharks infield two batters later allowed another run to score to give the visitors a 2-0 early lead.
 
BOTTOM 2ND | The Sharks made it a one-run game at 2-1 an inning later, as an RBI-triple by Mya Maddox scored Sydney Lageyre after she singled to the pitcher in the previous at bat.
 
BOTTOM 5TH | With two outs on the board, back-to-back singles by Sam Sisco and Tia Williams put the Sharks in scoring position before an RBI-single by Juliana Speranza to shallow center allowed enough time for the speedy Sisco to cross the plate to tie up the game at 2-2.
 
BOTTOM 6TH | With one out, Allie Janowiak drew a walk and was advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Alexis Smith before Nova Southeastern tallied the game-winner as Lageyre sent an RBI-double deep into right center to score Janowiak.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
 
  • The Sharks finished with six hits on the night as Lageyre went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored once.
  • Speranza finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and Maddox was 1-for-3 with an RBI as well.
  • Sam Sisco and Tia Williams were each 1-for-3.
  • Emily Hess earned the win after pitching all 7.0 innings, allowing two runs (1 ER) on six hits with five strikeouts.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
 
  • Catching two batters looking, Hess is now tied with Savannah Foster for second in the league with 16 on the season.

UP NEXT
 
Competition between the Sharks and the Mocs will resume tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 29 with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
