BOCA RATON, Fla. – In the long awaited 2020-21 competition debut, the Nova Southeastern swim teams cruised to two wins over the host Lynn Fighting Knights on Friday afternoon. The men swam first in the morning, earning an impressive 205-38 victory, before the women capped the day with a 182-61 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 

• All four Nova Southeastern A-relays finished on top on both sides of the events.
• The 200 medley relay was the first event of each meet. Martin Hemminghyth, Samuel Brettmann, Juan Zapata and Jonathan Yanello won in 1:33.12 before Allison Kopas, Cassandra Wright, Sasha Maslova and Hannah Trieschmann completed the event sweep later in the afternoon with a time of 1:46.44.
• The 400 freestyle relay was the final event. Jarryd Baxter, Hemminghyth, Olle Williamsson and Yanello teamed up to win the event in 3:13.18, while Wright, Audrey Rackel, Trieschmann and Solana Capalbo closed out competition with a winning time of 3:33.49.

 
 
TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS (MEN):
 

• The first individual event of the day saw a close finish as Baxter and Williamsson finished just .03 seconds of each other (1:45.18 and 1:45.21, respectively) in the 200 freestyle to take first and second place. Baxter would go on to also claim first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.05 and Williamsson would win the 100 breaststroke in 57.50.
• Hemminghyth also picked up a pair of wins in the 50 backstroke (24.17) and in the 100 backstroke (54.14)
• Brettmann claimed the top spot in the men's 50 breast, posting a time of 26.77.
• In his first meet as a Shark, Zapata also earned to first-place finishes, topping the competition in the 100 fly with a time of 51.31 and winning the 50 fly in 23.71. His teammate Christian Vendetti finished .2 seconds behind for second place (23.91).
• Yanello earned the win in the 50 free in 21.40.
• In the 100 freestyle, Kaden Mackey and Evan Weber finished 1-2 with times of 48.00 and 48.26.
• To wrap up the individual events, Alessandro Xella posted a winning time of 1:54.45 in the 200 individual medley.

 
 
TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS (WOMEN):
 

• Allison Kopas kicked things off for the women with a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.74. She also went on to win the 200 individual medley in 2:08.89.
• Wright also posted a pair of wins in the 50 backstroke (26.81) and in the 100 backstroke (58.35).
• Kaylee Gassen was the fifth Shark of the day to win multiple events, finishing first in both the 50 breaststroke (31.05) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.08).
• Maslova topped the competition in the 100 butterfly with her time of 58.13.
• Trieschmann earned an individual win in the 50 free, recording a time of 24.68.
• Capalbo won the next event, the 100 freestyle, with a time of 53.30.
• In the longest event of the day, the 500 freestyle, Tyler Fell went home with the win after logging a time of 5:20.10.

 
 
UP NEXT:
 
Nova Southeastern and Lynn will trade hosting duties on Saturday as the Fighting Knights will make their way down to Fort Lauderdale to swim against the Sharks in another split dual meet. The women will kick off competition in the morning starting at 10:00 a.m. before the men will swim at 2:00 p.m.
