Sharks Extend Streak to Three with Two Goals in Second Half

NSU knocks off Buccaneers in SSC play

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Men's Soccer team extended their winning streak to three matches following a 3-1 victory over the Buccaneers of Barry on Wednesday evening. Head Coach Matt Watts has guided NSU to an 8-3-1 record, including 4-3 in Sunshine State Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Bucs were able to get on the scoreboard first, taking an early lead with a penalty kick goal in the 14th minute. 
  • Milos Christoforou had the first opportunity on net for the Shark turned away, as Barry keeper Nils Buecheler recorded a save.  
  • Matty Cornish netted the equalizer in the 29th minute, beating the keeper on a penalty kick.  
  • BU played a man down for the remainder of the match beginning in the 37th minute. 
  • Nova Southeastern and Barry went into the halftime break tied at 1-1. 
  • Aleks Berg recorded the game-winning goal in the 49th minute, giving the Sharks a 2-1 advantage early in the second half. 
  • Christoforou capitalized on another opportunity in the final minutes of the game, tallying an insurance goal for the Sharks as NSU took a 3-1 lead. 
  • Nova Southeastern keeper Alberto Ciroi turned away two BU opportunities. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • NSU has improved to 4-0 on the road this season, with all four victories coming in SSC play. 

STAT OF THE NIGHT 

  • The Sharks out-shot the Buccaneers 24-11, including 16-5 in the second half. 

UP NEXT 

Nova Southeastern returns to the Shark-Tank to celebrate the 2021 Senior Classon Sat., Oct. 23. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. with pre-game senior festivities set to begin 30-minutes before the game.
