Sharks Beat Sailfish for First SSC Win

NSU Beats PBA from Rick Case Arena

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Nova Southeastern's Women's Basketball Sharks earned their first Sunshine State Conference victory of the season, defeating the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic 77-68 Wednesday night from the Rick Case Arena. McKenah Peters scored a game-high 22 points, shooting 8-16 from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED  

1ST QUARTER – India Shepherd gave the Sharks an 8-4 lead early in the SSC Showdown. Keanna Williams added a lay-up to put NSU ahead 12-6 at the midway point of the quarter. The Sharks closed the first quarter with a 16-15 lead over the Sailfish. 

2ND QUARTER -  PBA quickly took the lead in the second quarter, but McKenah Peters nailed a three-pointer to reclaim a 19-17 advantage. Makenna Drabick scored seven consecutive points for NSU, giving Nova Southeastern a double-digit lead, 38-30. NSU went into the halftime break leading 40-30 over PBA. 

 3RD QUARTER – Shepherd added another three-pointer to extend the Sharks lead to 45-32. At the halfway point of the third, Drabick put NSU ahead 49-36 with a fastbreak lay-up assisted by Williams. PBA finished the quarter with a 53-51 lead over Nova Southeastern. 

4TH QUARTER – Madeline Hardy converted an and-one, as NSU took a 54-53 advantage over Palm Beach Atlantic. Grace Gilmore scored four straight points for Nova Southeastern extended its lead to 63-59. Drabick added seven consecutive points for NSU, as the Sharks led 70-61 with less than three-minutes remaining. The Sharks sealed their 77-68 victory, improving to 1-1 in SSC play.  

STAT OF THE NIGHT 

  • NSU outrebounded PBA 28-19, which led to the Sharks outscoring the Sailfish 23-9 on second chance opportunities.

Nova Southeastern travels to St. Petersburg, Fla., to take on the Tritons of Eckerd on Sat., 12/4 at 2 p.m.
