HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first half started extremely quietly, with just one shot combined in the first 35 minutes. That changed after a foul in the box gave the Mocs a penalty kick opportunity, which they converted for the first score of the game.
- That seemed to wake up the Sharks offense, as they finally attempted their first shot in the 39th minute. NSU followed with three more before the clock expired, but the Mocs made three saves in that span to maintain the lead heading into the break.
- The Sharks maintained their aggression out of halftime, with four more shots in the first seven minutes of the second half, and it finally paid off for them when a flurry of passes, the last one from Henrik Berg, led to a brilliant roundhouse-kick goal for Tobias Pellio from the top of the box for the 52nd-minute equalizer.
- Both teams had chances, but the score stayed 1-1 until the 83rd minute, when Milos Christoforou recovered a fingertip-save off a shot by H. Berg and returned it back into the net for the one-goal advantage.
- The Mocs nearly scored an equalizer of their own just inside the two-minute mark, but their shot went just barely over the top crossbar. Christoforou made sure there weren't any more scares, icing the game with his second goal in less than six minutes, a right-footer from the far right side of the box with under 90 seconds left to play.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
- Despite being held shotless for the first 38 minutes, the Sharks finished with a sizeable 16-7 advantage, including 12-5 in the second period and 10-2 in shots on goal.
- Christoforou's two goals and four points are both career highs. The midfielder had three career goals and two assists across 21 games as a Shark coming into the game, including his first goal of the season against St. Thomas on Sept. 7. He is now tied with Matty Cornish for the team lead of three goals.
- Alberto Ciroi only needed to make one save in net, in the 66th minute, to earn the victory. His .906 goals-against average and .750 save percentage both place him among the top five keepers in the conference so far this season.
- Nick Brisevac led the team with four shots, but came up empty in the scoring column, as he was on the wrong side of three of Mocs' keeper Mars Gohier's seven saves.
