NSU Falls in SSC Action Against Tritons

Sharks Second Half Rally Falls Just Short

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A hard-fought effort by the Sharks fell just short, as the Nova Southeastern Sharks Women's Basketball team fell 64-59 to the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday afternoon from the Rick Case Arena. Grace Gilmore led the way for the Sharks, scoring 17 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

1ST QUARTER – The Sharks opened the game on a 5-0 run, which included a three-point bucket from Gilmore. Back-to-back three-pointers from India Shepherd and McKenah Peters put the score at 16-12 with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Nova Southeastern finished the opening quarter with a 19-16 lead, as Kyarrah Grant sank a three-pointer.  

2ND QUARTER – Eckerd began the second quarter with an 8-0 run, taking a 24-21 advantage over NSU. Nova Southeastern could not get much going offensively in the quarter and went into the halftime break trailing 30-26.  

3RD QUARTER – The Tritons extended their lead to 35-28 when Peters added another three-point make, helping trim the EC advantage. Before the media timeout, Patricia "Pistol" Brinson put the score at 38-33 with a lay-up, off an assist from Gilmore. After three quarters, Nova Southeastern trailed 42-36.  

4TH QUARTER - Shepherd started the fourth quarter rally for the Sharks, scoring the first five points, and put the score at 44-38. A'Lexus Bryant started a 9-0 run, which gave NSU a 53-48 advantage with less than four minutes remaining in the contest. Gilmore capped the rally with an and-one for the Sharks. With 1:18 left in the fourth quarter, Grant extended the Nova Southeastern advantage to 58-54 with a three-pointer. Eckerd rallied back in the final minutes, as the Sharks fell short and dropped the SSC contest to the Tritons, 64-59.  

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN 

  • The NSU bench contributed 20-points, with Kyarrah Grant (9) and A'Lexus Bryant (8) combining for 17.  

UPCOMING 

Nova Southeastern takes on the Buccaneers of Barry on Wed., Feb. 2, from the Rick Case Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
