HOW IT HAPPENED

Matt Kavanaugh (2-0) made his third start of the season and set the tone immediately for the Sharks, striking out two in his first inning of work. NSU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Tyler Epstein led off the frame with a double before coming into score on a sacrifice fly by Duncan Pastore. Kavanaugh struck out the side in the top of the second inning, making quick work of the Golden Falcon hitters.

Nova Southeastern tacked on another run in the bottom of the second inning, with Alex Hernandez driving in Gabriel Rivera with an RBI single to left field. Kavanaugh allowed his first base-runner of the contest in the top of the third, following an error, but made quick work of the inning after inducing a double play ball to Alejandro Macario.

Adan Fernandez extended the NSU lead with his team-leading third home run of the season, putting the score at 4-0. Rivera blasted his first home run of the campaign later in the inning to push the Sharks advantage to 5-0 in the opening frames. Kavanaugh kept Felician out of the hit column through four innings, adding two more strikeouts to his ledger. Pastore's second sacrifice fly of the game gave the Sharks a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the inning. The Golden Falcons broke through in both the hit and run column in the fifth, recording two doubles to put the score at 6-1.

The offensive onslaught continued for NSU, with Daniel Irisarri and Alejandro Macario both hitting home runs in the bottom of the fifth, as the Sharks took an 8-1 lead. Jarret Krzyznanowski entered in the top of the sixth inning to relieve Kavanaugh and recorded a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.

Nova Southeastern piled on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, with Pastore recording his third sacrifice fly and Irisarri adding one of his own. Macario started the bottom of the seventh inning with a triple to right-center and later scored on an RBI single from MC Sagaro. Jarrett Hall, entering as a pinch-hitter, launched his first home run of the campaign – bouncing off the parking garage – to extend the lead to 13-1. The Sharks scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 15-1 lead.

Felician plated two runs in the top of the ninth making the score 15-3 before NSU could finish off the victory.
