Sharks Headed West for ITA National Indoor Championships

Tournament to be held from Feb. 26-28 in Edmond, Okla.

EDMOND, Okla. – Making a return appearance for the first time since 2020, the Nova Southeastern women's tennis team is set to face the country's very best this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II National Women's Team Indoor Championship in Edmond, Okla.

Made up of the nation's Top-8 programs according to the final 2021 rankings, the Sharks will be seeded No. 7 and will open against second-seeded Indianapolis on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. The tournament is positioned as an Elite Eight-style bracket format, although all eight teams in attendance will be guaranteed three matches regardless of outcome.

Joining NSU and UIndy will be top-seeded Barry, Central Oklahoma, West Alabama, West Florida, Columbus State and Flagler.

"The ITA National Team Indoor Championship is a very prestigious event, and our team is very excited for this opportunity," said NSU head coach Doug Neagle. "Only the Top-8 teams in the country are invited so every match will be a tough challenge. We have been training hard, preparing for matches like these, so it will be nice to see where we stand right now in the season. All I ask from each of our players is their best effort, and I am confident they will do just that. Trips like these are memories of a lifetime and I'm happy our ladies get to experience this!"

The Sharks fared well at their most recent trip to the National Indoor Championships back in 2020, claiming third place following notable victories over both Saint Leo and Columbus State.

Natalie Espinal, Diane Follin-Arbelet, Celia Montero Estevan and Karolina Snita were all members of that 2020 group, That same four will be making this year's trip to Oklahoma, in addition to Zala Dovnik, Eva Goncharov, Nika Kozar, Chantal Nosievici and Julie Razafindranaly

As a team, the Sharks remained No. 4 in the latest ITA poll. Espinal, meanwhile, checked in at No. 9 in singles and at No. 2 in doubles playing alongside Nosievici.
NSU is fresh off a 7-0 road win at Eckerd that helped the team improve to 6-0 overall on the season and 3-0 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Sharks have outscored their first six opponents by a combined margin of 36-4.
