HOW IT HAPPENED
Embry-Riddle wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the first inning by Kennedy-Davis, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Nova Southeastern responded with three-runs in the bottom of the second, as Adam Frank hit a three-run home run to left-center field to give the Sharks the 3-2 lead.
NSU starting pitcher Matt Kavanaugh settled into the ballgame after the first inning, limiting the Eagles offense and keeping Embry-Riddle off the scoreboard for three consecutive innings. Kennedy-Davis hit his second home run of the contest to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the fifth. Kavanaugh finished the evening with five innings, striking out seven and allowing just three runs.
Jarret Krzyzanowski entered the ballgame in the top of the sixth inning for Nova Southeastern and shutdown the Eagles for the remainder of the contest. Krzyzanowski mowed down the Eagles, striking out seven and kept the Sharks in the game.
Ultimately, the first Sunshine State Conference match-up of the season for NSU went into extra innings. Kennedy-Davis drove in his fourth run of the game for ERAU in the top of tenth, giving Embry-Riddle a 4-3 lead.
Needing a rally, Alex Hernandez led off the bottom of the tenth with a single to left field and was pinch-ran for Michael Uz. Pinch-hitter Bryce Hazzard worked a walk, putting Uz in scoring position. The Sharks tied the game at 4-4 following an Eagles throwing error off an Epstein sacrifice bunt attempt. Duncan Pastore approached the plate with the bases loaded in a tie game in the bottom of the tenth and was hit by a pitch to bring in the game-winning run as the Sharks improved to 10-0 on the campaign.
