HOW IT HAPPENED

The Sharks, playing their first non-home game of the season, maintained their offensive prowess, plating three runs in the game's opening frame. Tyler Epstein and Adam Frank started with back-to-back singles, before Adan Fernandez drove in Epstein with a single of his own. Frank was scored on an RBI groundout from Daniel Irisarri and NSU capped off the inning with Fernandez scoring following an Oilers error.

Cooper Omans, the beneficiary of the early runs, sent down the Findlay hitters in order after being aided by Stephen Schissler throwing out an over-aggressive runner at second base.

Nova Southeastern started the top of the second inning with three consecutive hits, including a two-run single by Epstein which scored both Schissler and Alex Hernandez. Duncan Pastore followed with an RBI ground-rule double, bringing in Epstein. A second Oilers error led to Pastore coming into score, which was followed by an RBI single from Irisarri to bring the lead to 8-0.

Findlay broke onto the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third, scoring on an RBI double. NSU redeemed that UF run, as Epstein reached on another Oilers error to put the score at 9-1. Omans cruised the rest of the way, pitching five innings, striking out nine, and scattering three hits.

The Sharks tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth inning, all of which came after a two-out error by Findlay. Adam Smith drove in Gregory Delgado with an RBI double, Gabriel Rivera followed with an RBI single and Michael Uz worked a bases-loaded walk to put the score at 12-1.

Jose Varela threw the sixth inning for Nova Southeastern, working out of a runners on first and third jam. NSU added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh and turned to Matt Ornelas out of the bullpen. Ornelas sealed the win with a double play as the seventh-ranked Sharks improved to 13-0 on the season.

OUTSIDE THE BOX

  • 8-of-9 Shark starters in the lineup recorded at least one hit

  • Omans struck out nine across five innings, marking a season-high in both categories, and lowered his ERA to 1.74 across 10.1 innings of work.
