ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Women's Basketball team saw their 2021-22 season come to a close, falling against Eckerd 81-66 on Tuesday evening from the McArthur Center in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER – Grace Gilmore gave the Sharks their first lead, knocking down a three-pointer and adding a free throw make, putting NSU ahead 6-2. A 10-2 run by the Tritons over 2:12 flipped the scoreboard as Eckerd took a 12-6 lead. EC finished out the quarter with a 28-11 lead over the Sharks.
2ND QUARTER – McKenah Peters was fouled in the early stages of the second quarter, and knocked down three free throws to get the scoring started for NSU. Gilmore hit a three-pointer, starting a 14-1 run by Nova Southeastern, which featured three-point buckets from Madeline Hardy and India Shepherd, putting the score at 45-30 with 2:05 remaining in the half. The Sharks went into the halftime break trailing the Tritons 47-32.
3RD QUARTER – Makenna Drabick added a three-pointer of her own to cut the deficit to 57-44 nearing the midway point of the third quarter. Later in the quarter, Drabick also finished a lay-up to bring the Sharks within 10, 62-52 with 2:06 remaining. The Sharks were down 65-54 after three quarters of play, needing a comeback to continue their season.
4TH QUARTER – Patricia "Pistol" Brinson was able to bring the Sharks within single-digits, making a three-pointer to put the score at 65-57. Eckerd pulled away, extending their lead to over 20-points, as NSU continued to try and comeback. The effort fell short, with Peters making the final basket of the season, putting the score at 81-66 as Nova Southeastern was defeated in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
The Nova Southeastern Sharks concluded their season with the loss on Tuesday evening. During the season, both Grace Gilmore and McKenah Peters joined the 1,000-point club, additionally, Head Coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry earned her 200th win at NSU.
