FORT LAUDERDALE, FL. - The Sharks split their Sunshine State Conference series doubleheader on Saturday evening against the Buccaneers of Barry. NSU run-ruled Barry 10-1 in the first half of the doubleheader, but dropped the series finale 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
BOTTOM 1ST | The Sharks wasted no time getting the scoring started against Barry. Sydney Lageyre recorded a one-out triple, showing off her speed, and later scored on an infield single from Ryleigh Langwell. Lageyre and Langwell were the first of eight consecutive Sharks to reach base in the opening frame, and NSU added two more runs to take an early 4-0 lead.
BOTTOM 2ND | Lageyre recorded her second hit in as many at-bats to lead off the second, beating out an infield single before swiping second base. Langwell added her second hit, this time a triple of her own, scoring Lageyre to give NSU a 5-0 advantage. Allie Janowiak added an RBI single, driving in Tia Williams and later, Samantha Burke drove in Maddie Fine with a sacrifice fly, giving NSU an 8-0 lead. After two innings, the Sharks led 10-0.
TOP 4TH | Emily Hess held the Bucs off the scoreboard until the fourth inning, as Barry rallied for three singles in the inning but only scored one run, as NSU led 10-1.
TOP 5TH | The Sharks finished off the run-rule victory in the fifth inning, as Emily Hess earned her 12th win of the season. The victory gave NSU sole possession of first place in the Sunshine State Conference.
STAT OF THE GAME
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
TOP 2ND | Barry plated the games first run in the top of the second, following a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. Head Coach Julie LeMaire called upon Ashley Connor out of the bullpen with the bases loaded, and the freshman worked out of the jam by recording the final two outs of the frame.
TOP 5TH | Connor held the Bucs off the scoreboard until the fifth inning, when Barry plated a pair of runs before the Sharks cut down the final out at home plate.
BOTTOM 7TH | NSU was held off the scoreboard for just the second time on the 2022 season in the series finale, dropping the contest 3-0.
