ANDERSON, S.C. – An aggressive offense in the opening minutes of the match gave the third-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks an early lead and NSU never looked back, defeating the Anderson Trojans 2-0 to begin their 2022 campaign.
Floris van Nijnanten and
Alberto Rentero each found the back of the net, while
Eduardo D'Avino earned a clean sheet in his Sharks debut.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sharks opened the game with an aggressive offensive approach, as Michael Lawrence and Christian Gorski each attempted shots in the first ten minutes.
- Floris van Nijnanten scored the first goal of the 2022 season for Nova Southeastern, finishing a brilliant strike from distance to beat the keeper to the top of the net.
- In the 26th minute, Aleks Berg had a penalty shot opportunity – looking to extend the NSU lead – but it was turned away by the Trojans keeper.
- After being subbed in for Nick Brisevac in the 40th minute, Theo Oherwall made his presence felt immediately, taking a shot-on-goal but it was stopped by Anderson.
- Nova Southeastern took two more chances on goal in the closing minutes of the first half but went into the break holding on to their 1-0 lead.
- Following the halftime break, Anderson came out with three shots-on-goal in the first four minutes of the second half, but Sharks keeper Eduardo D'Avino turned each chance away.
- Berg and Paul Boos each attempted shots on net for NSU, but were unable to capitalize, as the score remained 1-0 into the 64th minute.
- Alberto Rentero extended the Sharks lead to 2-0 in the 73rd minute, finding the back of the net after a second effort following a deflection.
- D'Avino recorded four saves, completely shutting down Anderson, as he blanked the Trojans for his first win and shutout of the season.
