Sharks Fall Short in SSC Contest Against Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team lost its third game of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 58-66 to Florida Southern. The Sharks were led by 17 points from Madison Frederick, 16 points from Hailey Conley and 13 points from Sarei McGill. The trio accounted for 79% of the Sharks' points in the Sunshine State Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter – Nova Southeastern was held scoreless in the first quarter and headed into the second quarter down 0-13.

Second Quarter – Madison Frederick got the Sharks on the board with a paint jumper just over 20 seconds into the second quarter. Hailey Conley scored 7 of NSU's next 10 points, putting the Sharks down 15-32. Kyarrah Grant made a layup and Frederick made a free throw to send Nova Southeastern into halftime down 18-34.

Third Quarter – Frederick hit back-to-back three pointers to open the second half, bringing NSU to its lowest deficit since the first quarter, 24-34. The Sharks kept inching closer, with A'lexus Bryant and Conley scoring 8 consecutive points to make it a six-point game. Sarei McGill took the game over with just over 3 minutes left in the third, scoring Nova Southeastern's next 11 points. The Sharks dominated the third quarter 25-13, and would trail the Mocs 43-47 going into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter – Florida Southern started off the fourth with a 5-0 run, but Bryant ended it with a layup. Frederick scored NSU's next five points, bringing the deficit to 50-55 with just over four minutes remaining. As Florida Southern started to pull away, Kyannah Grant, Conley and McGill all contributed baskets that kept Nova Southeastern down six points with just over a minute remaining. The Mocs hit all its free throws down the stretch, securing a 58-66 loss for the Sharks.

STATS OF THE NIGHT
- In the second, third and fourth quarters, Nova Southeastern outscored Florida Southern 58-53.

- Frederick is averaging 20.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 6.9 assists over the last eight games.

- McGill is averaging 15 points on 64.7% from the field over the last two games.
