How it Happened

  • The Sharks trailed for much of the first set, but never were bothered by the Buccaneers advantage. After trailing 8-4, Kate Mihacevich and Brittany Landrum led a 4-1 run, putting the score at 9-8.
  • Later in the set, with the Sharks behind 19-17, Nadia Linder led a four-point rally, which was capped off by a Madison Cook service ace as NSU took a 21-19.
  • Nova Southeastern's defense stepped up, as Maddy Hooper teamed up with both Lindner and Mihacevich for a pair of blocks, before Hooper sealed the 25-21 first set win for the Sharks.
  • After closing the first set with the final four points, NSU maintained its momentum to start the second set and opened the frame on a 7-1 run. Mihacevich recorded three kills during the rally, while Taylor Stockman added a pair of her own.
  • Barry battled back into the set, putting the score at 15-14, but a kill from Mihacevich and a block from Lindner and Landrum gave Nova Southeastern a 17-14 advantage.
  • Landrum recorded a kill and teamed with Madison Cook to give the Sharks a 2-0 advantage in the match with a 25-23 second set victory.
  • The Bucs opened the third set with an 8-4 advantage, but Nova Southeastern rallied to cut the deficit to 12-10.
  • Landrum recorded three consecutive points, leading a 5-0 run for the Sharks, as NSU took a 19-18 lead.
  • Trailing 24-23 and facing set point, Stockman and Mihacevich recorded back-to-back points to reclaim the set lead for NSU.
  • Both the Sharks and Buccaneers traded points back-and-forth, with neither team able to put its opponent away.
  • A service error by Barry put NSU in front 35-34, but Barry recorded the final three points and took the third set 37-35.
  • Nova Southeastern did not let the lengthy third-set impact them, as the Sharks opened the fourth set with a 10-1 run as Elizabeth Price recorded a pair of service aces to keep the NSU momentum going.
  • Barry rallied for a 5-0 run, but the Tigers Sharks responded with their second extended run of the fourth set, as Lindner began the rally with a kill, then Cook followed with a two consecutive service aces, and NSU capped off a 6-1 run to lead 21-10.
  • Landrum sealed the Sunshine State Conference victory for the Sharks, recording her 14th kill of the match (her most since 2019) as Nova Southeastern won the final set 25-15.

Coach's Corner

Head Coach Kacie Ehinger - "I'm very happy with our performance tonight. It takes a lot of mental toughness to drop an extended set and bounce back how we did. Elizabeth Price had some great defensive plays and it was great to see our middles - Brittany Landrum and Maddy Hooper - perform offensively at such a high level. Another great job by Madison Cook in facilitating our offense and getting our hitters good looks while spreading the ball around."

What's Next

Nova Southeastern returns to the Rick Case Arena on Friday, October 13, to take on the Florida Tech Panthers in a Sunshine State Conference match. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
