HOW IT HAPPENED
Top of the Second – Saint Leo loaded the bases, with one out, following three walks in the inning. Head Coach Laz Gutierrez strolled to the mound to give Carlos Rey a breather and a minute to recompose himself. The mound visit worked, as the southpaw struck out the next two batters to leave the bases loaded.

Top of the Third – The Lions took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run.

Bottom of the Fourth – Adam Smith added a two-run home run of his own, driving a pitch over the centerfield wall, and tied the game at 2-2.

Top of the Fifth – Saint Leo began the inning with four consecutive singles and scored a total of six runs in the inning, taking an 8-2 lead over NSU.

Bottom of the Fifth – Gregory Delgado, Bryce Hazzard, and Adam Frank all reached to load the bases for the heart of the Sharks lineup. Delgado scored on a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to 8-3, but the Sharks were unable to add more runs.

Bottom of the Sixth – SLU added another run in the top half; however, NSU responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and put the score at 9-6. Derek Bermudez drove in Kristian Noriega on an RBI double, then later scored on a throwing error which allowed Delgado to get to third base. Delgado came across on an RBI groundout from Ryan Cainzos, capping off the inning.

Saint Leo added three runs in the eighth and ninth innings, taking the series opener 16-6 over Nova Southeastern.
