Sharks Open Series with Win over Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Nova Southeastern began its three-game Sunshine State Conference series against Lynn with a 8-3 victory over the Fighting Knights on Friday afternoon. Carlos Rey tossed a quality start for the Sharks, throwing six innings, striking out six and allowing two runs. NSU rallied to score four runs in the top of the ninth inning, recording three consecutive run scoring hits.

How it Happened
Top of the Second – Nova Southeastern got on the scoreboard first, taking advantage of a pair of Lynn errors to lead 1-0.

Bottom of the Third – Lynn tied the game on an RBI groundout, putting the score at 1-1.

Top of the Fourth – NSU responded with a three-run frame, reclaiming the lead at 4-1 over Lynn. Daniel Irisarri singled to centerfield and moved into scoring position after Adam Smith worked a walk. Kristian Noriega drove in Irisarri on an RBI single before Stephen Schissler brought in Smith on an RBI groundout. Derek Bermudez capped the inning with an RBI single, plating Noriega as NSU led 4-1.

Bottom of the Seventh – Lynn cut into the Sharks lead on a sacrifice fly and made the score 4-2.

Bottom of the Eighth - The Fighting Knights put the score at 4-3 following an RBI single. 

Top of the Ninth - Nova Southeastern plated four runs in the ninth, extending their lead to 8-3 over Lynn. Daniel Irisarri came through with an RBI single, before both Adam Smith and Noriega each added RBI doubles to put the score at 8-3.

NSU continues its series against Lynn on Saturday, April 22. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
