Smith's Home Run Powers NSU Past PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Led by five runs across the seventh and eighth innings, the Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team earned a non-conference victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday evening, defeating the Sailfish 8-6 from Simpson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bottom of the First – Stephen Schissler, the Sharks starting pitcher, worked around a lead-off single by striking out three consecutive PBA hitters.

Top of the Fifth – Bryce Hazzard led off the frame with a single, but the Sailfish recorded two consecutive outs, before Duncan Pastore worked a two-out walk. Following the walk, Daniel Irisarri doubled, driving in Hazzard, and gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

Bottom of the Fifth – PBA responded with three runs, capitalizing on a Sharks error, and took a 3-1 advantage over NSU.

Top of the Sixth – Hazzard drove in a pair of runs on an RBI single, tying the game at 3-3, as the outfielder drove in Gregory Delgado and Schissler.

Top of the Seventh – Nova Southeastern tallied three runs in the inning, taking a 6-3 lead over the Sailfish. Pastore led off the frame with a double and scored on an RBI single from Kristian Noriega. Schissler drove in Adam Smith with a sacrifice fly and the rally was capped off by an error, allowing Nova Southeastern to plate another run.

Bottom of the Seventh – PBA scored two runs on an RBI single, cutting the NSU lead to 6-5.

Top of the Eighth – Smith gave the Sharks some much needed insurance, hitting a two-run home run, and put the score at 8-5.

Bottom of the Ninth – Michael Dillon closed out the victory for NSU, sealing the 8-6 win.
