Sharks Split Doubleheader with Embry-Riddle

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Softball team split its doubleheader with Sunshine State Conference Opponent Embry-Riddle on Friday afternoon. NSU took game one 9-2 with Tia Williams and Kerstyn Shaw each contributing three hits and a pair of RBIs, respectively. In a 14-inning game two, the Sharks fell 5-3 to the Eagles.

How it Happened


TOP 1st | Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a double and a throwing error.

TOP 2nd | A double followed by a two-out single extended the Eagles' lead to 2-0.

BOT 3rd | Alexis Smith led off the inning with a single and was advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt. A double from Ryleigh Langwell drove in Smith to lower the Sharks' deficit to one. Langwell would tie the game after scoring on a passed ball. After loading the bases with two outs, Hayley Lynch was hit by a pitch, putting NSU up 3-2.

BOT 4th | The Sharks got two runners on base quickly after a leadoff double from Smith and a walk from Alyssa Drogemuller Nova Southeastern's lead was extended to 4-2 after Langwell reached on an error, scoring Smith. A triple down the right field line from Tia Williams drove in Langwell and Drogemuller, giving NSU a 6-2 advantage. Kerstyn Shaw would add one more run, driving in Williams on a single up the middle to put the Sharks up 7-2.

BOT 6th | Drogemuller was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Williams reached on an error and Drogemuller scored to extend Nova Southeastern's advantage to 8-2. A single from Madison Fine advanced Williams to third, and a sacrifice fly from Shaw drove in Williams to give NSU a 7-run edge before the final inning.

TOP 7th | Pitcher Julia Allen finished the Eagles off, securing a complete game and a 9-2 victory for the Sharks in game one.

How it Happened


TOP 2nd | Embry-Riddle got out to a 2-0 lead after a double drove in a pair of runs.

BOT 2nd | Williams worked a walk to open the inning and was advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt from Fine. Emily Thomas lowered NSU's deficit to 2-1 after an error from the third basemen allowed Williams to cross home plate.

BOT 4th | Samantha Burke reached base after a double to left field. In a repeat of last inning, an error by the third basemen allowed Lynch to reach second base and Burke to score, tying the game 2-2. The Sharks took the lead after a triple to center field from Smith drove in Lynch.

TOP 7th | A solo homerun from the Eagles tied the game 3-3.

BOT 7th | With the Sharks failing to break the tie, the game went into extra innings.

TOP 14th | After six scoreless innings, Embry-Riddle took a 5-3 lead after driving in a pair of runners on a 2-RBI single.

BOT 14th | The Sharks were unable to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the 14th, and would lose the final game of the series 5-3.



What's Next

The Sharks will travel to Lakeland, Fla. on Friday, April 14 to take on SSC opponent Florida Southern in a three-game series. First-pitch is set for 7 p.m.
