NSU Women First, Men Second, as Day Four of SSC Championships Concludes

OCALA, Fla. - The Sharks returned to the pool at FAST on Saturday night for day four of the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Championships. The Sharks continued to collect more medals on Saturday, bringing their total medal count through four days up to 14 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals. As both teams gear up for the final day of the meet, the Women's team stays put in first place, and the Men's team remains in second.

How it Happened
(Women's)
  • The Sharks dominated from the jump, taking first through fourth in the 500 Freestyle. Emily Trieschmann secured first place with a time of 4:49.16. Coming in second place with a time of 4:52.91 was Hailey Williams. Behind Williams in third place was Ilaria Murzilli, who finished with a time of 4:55.67. Rounding out the top four, finishing just .11 seconds after Murzilli was Estelle Bauer.
  • In the 100 Backstroke, Maria Goncalves captured the gold medal, finishing with a time of 54.45.
  • Earlier in the day during prelims, Rafaela Raurich set a new SSC record for the fastest 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:57.37. Unfortunately, that record did not last long, because Raurich broke the record once again during the finals. Raurich took first and reset the SSC record time in the 200 Butterfly with a 1:56.71. Taking third in the event was May Lowy, who finished with a time of 1:59.68.
  • In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Goncalves, Solana Capalbo, Mollie Morfelt, and Maya Esparza took home the silver medal with a time of 1:32.64.

What's Next
The Sharks return to pool in Ocala, FL on February 18th for the final day of the Sunshine State Conference Championships. Events scheduled for day five include 1650 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, and the 400 Freestyle Relay. Prelims begin at 10:00AM, followed by the finals at 5:00PM.
