Sharks Host Successful Weekend at the Shark Bite Invite

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's tennis team hosted the annual Shark Bite Invite at the NSU Tennis Complex at Rolling Hills. Over three days of competition, NSU faced off against Tampa, Flagler, and St. Thomas, delivering a series of strong performances in both singles and doubles play.


How it Happened

Friday – Sharks Start Strong Against Tampa

The weekend began with the Sharks setting the tone in doubles action against the University of Tampa.The pairing of Katja Markus and Amina Sagadiyeva opened with a decisive 6-2 win, while Chole Henderson and Noemie Dadoun earned a 6-0 victory to clinch the doubles point for NSU.

In singles play, Markus delivered a dominant performance with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Henderson followed suit with a 6-0, 6-2 victory, and Maya Benaic came through in a hard-fought three-set match, taking it 7-6 (3), 3-6, 10-4. Gia Fine added another three-set victory 5-7, 6-2, 10-4. Dadoun added another singles win, 6-1, 6-0, giving the Sharks a strong start to their home event.

Saturday – Sharks Continue Momentum Against Flagler

Saturday's matches against Flagler College saw continued success across the board for Nova Southeastern. The duo of Markus and Sagadiyeva stayed perfect on the weekend, defeating Flagler's duo 6-2, while the pairs of Henderson and Dadoun and Fine and Benaich secured two more 6-2 wins.

In singles, Henderson remained unbeaten with a three-set win 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 result. Sagadiyeva followed with a 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 hard fought victory, while Benaich fought through a tight contest of her own to take her match 6-3, 7-6 (4). Fine capped the afternoon with a win in a 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 battle to seal another strong day for the Sharks.

Sunday – Sharks Close Out the Weekend vs. St. Thomas

The Sharks wrapped up the weekend against St. Thomas University with another day of strong play before rain shortened the final round. In doubles, Markus and Sagadiyeva continued their dominance with a 7-5 win, while Henderson and Dadoun picked up another victory, 6-2.

In singles,The Sharks were leading on five courts when the rain arrived. Fine led 4-3 in her opening set, and Sagadiyeva was awarded the victory after her opponent retired following the first set. Despite the weather cutting play short.
