NSU Women Finish Second, Men Third, at SSC Championships

OCALA, Fla. - The Sharks Swim teams closed out the SSC Championships on Sunday night from FAST. Both teams had successful performances on the final day, racking up 10 podium finishes. The teams combined for a total medal count of 18 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and six bronze medals across the meet. The Women's team battled it out with Tampa till the final event of the meet, however, the Sharks finished just five points shy of their fifth-consecutive SSC championship. The Men's team closed the gap between Florida Southern, but ultimately finished third in the meet.

Events - 1650 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Back, 200 Breast, and 400 Freestyle Relay.

How it Happened
(Women's)

  • Hailey Williams was victorious in the 1650 free with a time of 16:38.09.
  • In the 100 free, Kristina Orban placed second with a time of 48.86. Maya Esparza took third with a time of 50.18.
  • May Lowy secured the victory in the 200 back with a time of 1:58.29.
  • In the 200 breast, Emilia Ronningdal took the victory, finishing with a time of 2:14.63.
  • The group of Ronningdal, Zsofia Kurdi, Maria Goncalves, and Esparza placed first in the 400 free relay. With their time of 3:19.77, the group set a new NSU and SSC record.


How it Happened
(Men's)

  • Luca Alessandrini secured the victory in the 1650 free. His time of 15:11.36 set a new meet record.
  • Gavin Lindley was victorious in the 100 free. His time of 43.26 set a new meet record.
  • In the 200 breast, Inigo Marina took first with a time of 1:56.57. Javier Colmenares placed second with a time of 1:58.66.


What's Next
The Sharks return to Fort Lauderdale, FL and begin preparations for the NCAA National Championships. The championship meet takes place in Indianapolis, IN from March 11-15.
