Sharks walk-off Panthers for fifth straight win

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team combined to hit three home runs, while Keyler Gonzalez struck out eight across seven innings of work, in a walk-off 6-5 victory over the Florida Tech Panthers in game one of the Sunshine State Conference series on Friday night at the NSU Baseball Complex. NSU has won five consecutive games, improving to 4-0 in SSC play, and now have two walk-off victories in the 2025 season.

How it Happened
  • Keyler Gonzalez began the contest by setting down the Panthers in order in each of the first three innings, recording four strikeouts.
  • Zeth Rodriguez got the Sharks on the scoreboard first, hitting a solo home run, giving NSU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. 
  • The pitchers dual continued as Gonzalez and Jacob Pino, the reigning Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, matched each other pitch for pitch through six innings. 
  • Florida Tech tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning
  • The Sharks quickly responded as Boris Pena reclaimed the lead for NSU with a home run, before Zeth Rodriguez drove in Ronny Medina with an RBI single and Justin Wachs capped off a four-run frame with a two-run home run. 
  • The Panthers cut into the Sharks 5-1 advantage with a three-run home run, putting the score at 5-4 and chasing Gonzalez from the game. 
  • Julian Hernandez entered out of the bullpen for NSU and ended the inning by recording three consecutive outs. 
  • Florida Tech tied the game in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI single
  • Pena led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, but was stranded in scoring position as the game went into extra innings. 
  • Edwin Alicea tossed a shutout frame in the tenth inning for Nova Southeastern
  • Nova Southeastern found a way to walk-off the Panthers without recording a hit in the extra frame, capitalizing on a pair of errors, a walk and a hit-by-pitch, taking the first game of the Sunshine State Conference series 6-5.
